Bells of Pattingham, Suicide Six, Cross country league & training notice.

Hi there,
Two very popular races are fast appoaching: The Bells of Pattingham and the Suicide Six. Details and application forms from:
This Sunday 24th September, some of us are doing a recce of the Wrekin Wrecker course. Meet at the bottom of the Wrekin carpark at 9:00am. The run is about 8 miles and involves 2 and a half ascents of the Wrekin.
As we mentioned in the September newsletter, we would like to enter a team in this years' North Wales Cross country league. We thought this league would be best as paradoxically, it would involve less travel than any of the midland leagues. The races are:
Cross Country Dates:
30th September Colwyn Bay
21st October Telford
25th November Bangor
20th January Wrexham
10th February Oswestry
Each event has different races and everyone we enter for each category counts towards our teams overall points. The races/ categories are:
u17 men starts 2:00pm
all womens and over 70's men starts 2:05pm
all other men starts at 2:45pm
So far we have eight members who have expressed an interest. The first six home from each team counts so ideally, it would be better to have around a dozen in the team.
If you are interested, you don't have to run every race. But could you let me know asap if you can run on the first race in Colwyn Bay at the end of the month? I'm sure we could sort out shared transport.
Best wishes, Glenn
Get lit up!! Starting 27th September
As we are now getting into the darker nights, don’t forget to dig out a reflective jacket/bib and maybe some flashy armbands and lightweight headtorch.

Sexathlon Series & Triathlons.

The final race of Telford AC's Sexarathon series took place last Wednesday
> at Madeley. The race again took place in poor conditions in rain and poor
> light, but this failed to deter more than 200 athletes from racing for
> their positions in the series.
>
> Newport and District running club put out a good team of over 30 runners
> on the night with several of these looking to do well in their respective
> categories.
>
> Back from his holidays, John Garmson did well to finish 22nd in 18m 17s to
> achieve 3rd place in the over 40's. Not too far behind was Robin Guy who
> has had a good season so far and still seems to be improving. He was 29th
> in 18m 41s. Only three seconds adrift in 30th was Glenn MacDonald-Jones
> who also seems to be gaining in strength and speed as the year progresses.
>
> Noel Hogan was 34th in 19m 05s and soon after was Steve Tudor in 19m 54s
> to gain 44th position. This was his first series for several years and he
> should be pleased with 2nd place in the over 50's category.
>
> Gary Postins also has made progress through his first season with the club
> and did well to come 48th in 20m 10s and gain 10th place in a very
> competitive category. Chris Adcock was beaten by Gary on the night but
> managed to be 9th in the series overall by virtue of previous results and
> a time of 20m 45s to gain 56th place at Madeley.
>
> Peter Johnstone was 60th in 20m 55s with Richard Guy 64th in 21m 11s. He
> was closely followed by Brian Kelson who had a good run on the night to
> cross the line in 65th place in 21m 14s and five seconds later by Mark
> Deighton in 67th place. Brian finished in 6th place and Mark in 4th place
> overall in a closely fought over 45's group.
>
> Other runners who distinguished themselves for Newport last Wednesday
were:

> Several members of Newport and District Running Club showed that their
> talents were not restricted to just running when they took part in the
> Wombourne Sprint Triathlon last Sunday. This popular event involved
> athletes swimming 400 metres before cycling 20k over an undulating,
> technical course then running 5k before finishing on Ounsdale School's
> field.
> Robin Guy showed his strength and fitness to polish off the swim in 7m 13s
> before seeing off the bike ride in 33m 50s and completing the run in 20m
> 36s to give an excellent time of 1hour 00mins 49secs and 13th place in a
> field of almost 200.
> Glenn MacDonald-Jones had a great morning's racing to complete the swim in
> 8min 34sec. His bike ride was quick in 35m 31s and he had a superb run of
> 19m 32s to give him 1hr 03m 52s and 26th place.
> In 32nd place was Gary Postins, who seems to be going from strenth to
> strength. He had a good swim of 8m 24s and a quick bike of 35m 31s. His
> run of 22m 04s completed his event in 1hr 05m 19s.
> Richard Guy was 45th in a total time of 1hr 06m 49s. This consisted of an
> 8m34s swim, a 35m 39s bike ride and a 23m 21s run.
> Mark Deighton had a relatively slow swim of 10m 23s, but clawed a little
> back on the bike with a time of 38m 40s and a run of 23m 26s which equated
> to 71st postion in 1hr 11m 19s.
> Lorraine Rollinson put in a good effort to finish the swim in 9m 11s, the
> bike ride in 43m 16s and the run in 23m 10s, totalling 1hr 12m 51s to gain
> 84th place.
> Helen MacDonald-Jones showed that she was not there just for the sunshine
> as she pushed on throughout to swim the 400m in 10m 55s, cycle the 20k in
> 42m 36s and run the 5k in 27m 19s, which gave a total of 1hr 20m 20s and
> 124th place overall.
> A relative newcomer to the event, Benita Guy did well in the pool,
> completing the swim in 8m 35s, her bike ride was 53m 47s and she did the
> run in 29m 48s to finish 149th overall in 1hr 30m 10s.
> Unfortunately Bernie Holbrook completed the event in 1hr 16m 14s but was
> sadly disqualified when he allegedly ignored a marshall on the bike ride
> and rode through a red traffic light. He will surely learn from the
> experience and come back next season faster than ever.
