Update
Liverpool Half Marathon
Mandy Purves and her sister Kim Anten recently travelled to Liverpool to
race the 13.1 miles around the city. They both enjoyed the day and
completed the surprisingly undulating course in 1hr 45m and 2h 11m
respectively. The race was well organised and from their experience, other
members of the club may also make the journey next year.
Lilleshall 10K
The first race of Telford AC1's 25th Sexarathon Series took place at the
National Sports Centre last Wednesday. Around 320 runners congregated to
race the 10K round the gardens and down and up the long drive before doing
another lap of the gardens and finishing by the football pitches.
Conditions on the night were excellent, and Newport and District Running
Club were out in force, putting out 49 runners for the series, the most
ever for the club and the biggest turn out of any club on the night.
Ed Jopling put in a stirling performance to finish 21st in an excellent
time of 36m 36s and showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with in
the remaining races.
A new member to the club this year, Paul Parkingsin, showed that he was no
slouch, crossing the line in 37th place in 38m 16s.
Noel Hogan and Robin Guy had their own personal race with Noel just coming
out on top finishing 42nd in 39m 23s with Robin 43rd just 12 seconds
later.
Maurice Reid was well placed in the field to gain 55th place in 40m 47s
and Glenn MacDonald-Jones made a return from yet another injury to achieve
a creditable 65th place in 41m 31s.

Gluttons for punishment, Helen MacDonald-Jones and Mark Deighton went to
Cannock Chase the following evening to run the first of Stone Master
Marathoners Spring Treble series on a 5.35 mile course on Cannock Chase.
This was a tough two lap course with a long hill on each lap before the
run in to the finish.
Almost a hundred runners took part and with the previous night's run still
in their legs Helen did well to achieve 64th place in 49m 30s with Mark
pushing on to cross the line in 26th place in 39m 39s.
